What do we do?
Behind the MuseumWeek brand is a non-profit association called Culture For Causes Network. Culture For Causes Network is dedicated to leveraging the power of culture to inspire social change, promote inclusivity, and highlight the important role of cultural institutions in our societies. By uniting museums and cultural players globally, the organization aims to create meaningful impact, raise awareness on pressing issues, and build bridges between culture and society. It was created in 2017 and is based in Paris, France.
Organising the voice of museums for social impact: MuseumWeek, the international week of museums
Every year during International Museum Week (MuseumWeek), Culture For Causes Network selects themes designed to inspire cultural organizations worldwide through both online and in-person actions. These themes, often tied to causes of public interest, aim to raise awareness by sharing cultural content with diverse audiences.
From 2017 to 2019, MuseumWeek highlighted the role of women in culture in collaboration with the CHANEL Foundation, contributing to the fight for gender equality. In 2020, as COVID spread globally, the theme "living together" became a powerful focus on social media while museums were closed, and the public was in lockdown. In 2021, the theme was creativity, followed by innovation in 2022, and reconciliation with the natural world in 2023 and 2024.
These cultural advocacy actions serve as essential reminders of the significant role museums play in our societies.
MuseumWeek is more than just an annual event; it is a movement that harnesses the collective power of cultural institutions worldwide to create meaningful social impact, raise awareness, and unite people around critical issues.
Through its vast network of museums and cultural institutions, Culture For Causes Network shares and disseminates impactful cultural content across social platforms, addressing topics such as tolerance, inclusivity, the role of women in culture, the artist's contribution to society, and environmental concerns.
Championing Museum Workers and Artists Worldwide
Beyond MuseumWeek, our Magazine serves as a continuous beacon of influence. Throughout the year, the Magazine publishes interviews, articles, and insights from leaders in culture, artists, and other creatives. This platform allows us to keep a sustained presence in the cultural conversation, offering practical advice for digital engagement, spotlighting success stories, and diving into key topics that matter to the cultural community and the general public.
The MuseumWeek Magazine is a prestigious publication dedicated to the vibrant and dynamic world of art, culture, and heritage. As the voice of the Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums (GLAM) community, it offers in-depth insights, compelling stories, and the latest trends in the cultural sector. MuseumWeek Magazine is not just a magazine; it is an essential resource and a meeting point for professionals and enthusiasts who are passionate about the preservation and celebration of our global cultural heritage.
Exhibiting
We have also launched an exhibition dedicated to biodiversity, designed to travel across the globe, strengthening the role of culture and artists in raising public awareness about environmental issues. This exhibition serves as a powerful reminder of how culture can help tackle some of the most pressing issues of our time, fostering a deeper understanding of our connection to nature.
The impact of this exhibition goes beyond showcasing art; it aims to engage audiences in a conversation about biodiversity and the environment, emphasizing how art can move people and inspire action. With each edition held in different cities (e.g., Paris, Lisbon), the exhibition grows, involving more artists and expanding its reach and influence.
