MuseumWeek AI Awereness Cafés sessions: it's time to go AI!

Artificial intelligence is already reshaping the tools we use, the way we work, and how we engage with one another. Museums are at the forefront of this discussion - from evolving ethical frameworks and plagiarism regulations to changing trust in digital services and public expectations. Museums must shift their practices to incorporate these developments and re-evaluate the critical role of cultural institutions in our society.

It is essential that museum professionals are informed and equipped to engage their communities about these innovations. To support these conversations, MuseumWeek provides the framework for starting respectful and productive dialogue regarding the incorporation of AI in our society and the future.

MuseumWeek’s AI Cafés invite institutions to host international discourse with their teams, neighborhoods and other museums around the world. We are proud to offer a thoughtful facilitation guide and curated resources to help professionals organize and lead these sessions in an open, accessible way.

1. Inclusivity is key!

These informal meetings, open to all departments (curatorial, education, communication, visitor services, administration…), aim to build a shared understanding of AI, raise awareness of key questions, and foster discussion around trusted tools and use cases. Through sharing diverse perspectives on AI’s impact on our daily lives we will make significant progress understanding humanities relationship with and reliance on technology.

3. Kick-off on    June 2nd, 2025

We invite all participating institutions to hold their first Museum AI Café on 2 June 2025, during the #AImuseumsMW day.

Use the hashtag in your posts online to contribute your thoughts, share your commitment, and increase visibility of the initiative.

5. Continuing the Discussion

After the initial kick-off on 2 June, museums are encouraged to organize additional AI Café sessions whenever it fits their schedule.

Feel free to share your ongoing efforts using #AImuseumsMW to keep the conversation going and inspire others.

2. Facilitation guide

The Museum AI Café facilitation guide is designed to help you prepare and lead internal discussions on artificial intelligence within your institution.

4. Share your feedback

After your session, we invite you to complete a short survey to help us map the discourse across our network. While this is not a requirement, we appreciate your feedback and encourage you to reflect with your team.

Prepare your AI Café session!
